Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park: hiking among nature’s treasures
8 days
About this Tour
Day 1: Welcome to the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park
Private transfer from the Airport to Belluno. Night in hotel.
Day 2: The Cajada Forest and Mount Zervoi
We begin our exploration of the National Park from the northern sector, reaching the edge of the Cajada Forest by van. This hanging valley, populated by beech and fir trees, has provided timber for the ships of the ancient Republic of Venice for centuries. We then follow on foot the forest road that leads us into the Cajada basin and onward to the meadows and summit of Mount Zervoi, surrounded by the peaks of Mount Serva and Mount Pelf (12 km; +700 m). Night in hotel in Belluno.
Day 3: Mount Serva, a Panoramic Balcony Over the City of Belluno and the Valbelluna
We dedicate the second day to the peak that dominates the city of Belluno. Once out of the forest, we ascend through the open landscape of Serva’s alpine pastures. Upon reaching the summit, the panorama opens toward the northern Dolomites, offering a sweeping view that, on clear days, stretches from the Dolomites all the way to the sea (14 km; +1300 m). Night in hotel in Belluno.
Day 4: Along the Gorges of the Ardo Valley
We explore the valley carved into layers of Dolomite rock by the Ardo stream. The day’s destination is the 7th Alpini Mountain Hut, perched at the foot of the majestic southern face of Mount Serva—an iconic wall that has long been a playground for local climbers. Along the return trail, a short detour leads us through the fossil gorge of the Bus del Buson, a geomorphological gem of the National Park (14 km; +1000 m). Night in hotel in Belluno.
Day 5: The Plateau of the Piani Eterni
The second part of the journey is dedicated to the southern sector of the Park. We begin by reaching the magnificent plateau known as the Piani Eterni, a suspended valley where farmers have brought livestock to graze during the summer for centuries, and where encounters with local wildlife—chamois, marmots, and eagles—are common. Starting from Lake Val Canzoi, we hike through beech forests and suddenly emerge into the large glacial basin (16 km; +1100 m). Night in hotel in Feltre.
D6: The Summit of Mount Pavione
The Vette Feltrine mountain group dominates the town of Feltre and the southern Valbelluna. Today we climb to the summit of Mount Pavione (2,335 m), the highest in the group, following a panoramic ridge between two large glacial cirques. It is in these valleys that the park’s most spectacular and rare early-summer blooms can be admired—one of the ecological reasons behind the creation of the protected area (18 km; +1300 m). Night in hotel in Feltre.
D7: Col de Moi, a Final Panoramic View Over Our Entire Adventure
For the final hike we step outside the National Park and position ourselves directly opposite it. The Col de Moi loop immerses us in a different environment—less typically Dolomitic but no less spectacular. We stand on the last mountain chain before the vast Veneto plain to the south. To the north, we gaze upon the entire mountain range of the National Park, taking in a single sweeping view of the week’s exploration as our adventure draws to a close (13 km; +700 m). Night in hotel in Feltre.
D8: Private transfer to Venice airport
